HOW TO WEAR A KIMONO
The fabrics that we use such as organic cotton and bamboo, are sustainably sourced and produced in an ethical way, created to be durable and long-lasting, ensuring the highest quality. These are then printed with earth friendly dyes that not only give the garment soft and luxurious colour but also mean that by wearing a Verry Kerry kimono rather than a polyester alternative, you’re helping Mother Nature remain as untouched as possible. It’s all about feeling great about yourself, and your impact on the environment.
One piece of sensational fabric … so many possibilities.
Where does the kimono actually come from? The word kimono literally translates from the Japanese as ‘something to wear’ and this specific style of clothing originated in Japan’s Heian period (794-1192 AD). Although this unique piece of clothing was traditionally worn on special occasions, what many might not know is that over a thousand years ago kimonos were initially worn either with trousers (hakama), or an apron (mo), both of which were tied at waist height and hung over the top of the kimono. It was only a couple of hundred years later that they began to be worn by themselves, with a belt (obi) instead to secure the waist.
Fast forward a few more years, and kimonos are so useful, practical and glamorous, whether you’re having a lazy day lounging at home, going out in the evening, or getting ready on your very special day. So, if you have ever wondered how to wear a kimono in all those occasions .. look no further.
